Abstract

The pertechnetate concentrating mechanism in thyroid gland, salivary glands and stomach was studied in rats by determination tissue: plasma radioactivity ratio. We investigated the influence of TSH suppression by T3 - treatment on the activity of this mechanism. The obtained results show:

1. The strongest pertechnetate-concentrating mechanism exists in the thyroid gland;

2. This mechanism is negligible (or absent) in parotid, sublingual and submaxillar glands;

3· The concentrating mechanism in the stomach is mainly located in the pyloris and less in the funduÑ•;

4. The TSH-suppression by T3-treatment brings about significant reduction of the concentrating mechanism in the thyroid but no effect on the salivary glands and stomach was observed.
